Furniture ready for monsoon

With the onset of monsoons, we have the scorching heat going away and the land being drenched in coolness. We make ourselves ready with great books and a relaxing cup of coffee. But, this lovely weather tends to spell a disaster when it comes to our furniture. For now, just let your hair down and breathe because here are some quick and easy tips from us. Get furniture ready for monsoon and scroll down.

Avoid humidity/dampness/moisture

The first and the foremost thing to do is to avoid getting any kind of moisture or wetness on the furniture. Dampness proves to be the deadliest hazard for furniture in the monsoons. It should not be placed anywhere near an opening where water from the rain can reach it. It should be kept in a dry area or where cross ventilation is there. You can also switch your curtains with light and pastel colours. Lightness attracts the air and keeps it cool and dry. You should roll up your rugs and keep them away, at least for this season.

Keep your furniture spic and span

You should always protect your furniture from any dust particles. Dusty surfaces retain the moisture that lands on them. You should always be using a dry and neat cloth to wipe away all the dust from your furniture.

Keep your furniture mobile for rains

Try to keep your furniture away from your windows or doors. Keep an eye to see that the sprays of rains are not accessible to your furniture. If any kind of furniture is placed near the area that receives rain or moisture just moves it to a safer place immediately. Keep your furniture dry by maximising cross ventilation. On sunnier days, give your furniture a chance to air out but keep them away from direct sunlight, as that might tarnish the polish. Filter out the sun’s harsh rays through shades or blinds.

Fragrances and odour to the rescue

We often feel the dampness in the air though we all love the petrichor. To avoid that musty smell in our drawers or rooms, scented candles or odours can be our saviours. Naphthalene balls or camphor are great for soaking up moisture and the unappealing scents it brings. You can use any like lavender, jasmine or citrus according to your choice.

With these essential, but simple furniture caring tips, you can ensure that your wooden furnishings remain in ship-shape during the dreary monsoon weather. Good luck!

Sometimes all it takes for proper care of furniture, is a simple move away from places that are susceptible to the spray of rain, moisture and dampness, such as windows or walls. Wishing you a very happy and monsoon with your books, coffee and your favourite couch.
